YOGA

Yoga offers us possibility to develop both strength and flexibility, engage with patterns that nourish or limit us, develop resilience, and remind us of the delight of embodied play in our unending journey to becoming more wholehearted and compassionate beings. Yoga is about learning to lead our lives along with lifting the lives of others around us, nurturing one’s inner teacher, leader, dancer and story-maker, both on and off the mat.

"Yoga drawn"....

brad davis (E-RYT 200, RYT 500, M.Ed.) began his yoga journey 17 years ago while facilitating a leadership and global justice university program beside banyan tree in Southern India. He settled beside the Salish Sea in 2010 in the land of Raven and Orca, Oak and Fir on the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples. His yoga teaching, beginning in 2012, has been most strongly formed by the ‘heart opening/heart breaking’ story of the alignment practice of Anusara, woven with the gentle and spacious practice of Yin Yoga, integrated with ongoing study into the evolving contemporary story of yoga itself. brad is indebted to his teachers who have shaped the approach to yoga and mindulness work including Thulasi in Auroville, Darcy Lyon/Anusara, bell hooks and Augusto Boal, Joanna Macy, Timothy Pyrch, Mark Whitwell, Ida Manley and Misha Butot at Moksana Yoga, river, desert and forest, Tina James, Bernie Clark/ Yin, Max Strom. His practice is deeply influenced by ‘Socially Engaged Buddhism’, Principles of Transformative Education and connection to the natural world. Years of exploring different forms of meditation from Vipassana to Zen, along with many miles spent sitting on a bicycle and canoe seat through urban and wilderness spaces, has inspired and shaped his approach to including mindfulness practices in his teaching. He has come to understand and respect the capacity of yoga to increase our strength and flexibility of body, mind and heart, engaging with the patterns that nourish or limit us, developing resilience and cultivating play in our unending journey to becoming more wholehearted beings. brad believes in the ongoing nurturing of one’s inner teacher, leader, dancer and story-maker, both on and off the mat.
